Impact of Friends

Have you had people enter your life for a small period of time who have had a big impact on you? I have moved around a bit during my adult life, and I have met people who touched my heart immediately. Then the disappointment of not having the close consistent contact comes because one of us eventually moved on. I miss the people who have come and gone from my life. But I will never forget them. I believe we all take from each other and in return we need to give of our selves.

I am the first to admit that I am not good at keeping in touch with people. This is a trait I need to replace! I do not mean to ignore people. I have always been cautious about interrupting people during their daily routine. I also enjoy face-to-face conversation more than phone or computer communication. This is my lame excuse for not initiating continuous contact.

I am thankful for the true friends I have. They are the people who willingly share their thoughts and time. They are the people who call out of the blue to brighten my day. They are the people that can pick up the conversation from long ago as if it were continuous and still fresh today. They accept my flaws and are not judgmental about how I live my life. They are the people that I feel like they are always with me even when they live fourteen hundred miles away.

I hope everyone has the opportunity to have friends who love you unconditionally and keep in touch even when it is not reciprocated at the same level of consistency. I am truly blessed to have friends that keep in touch. If you are a person who feels like you are the one who is doing all the work in your relationship, just think about how much people like me appreciate YOU!
